I booted up the homepage for Badoo – a Facebook integrated ‘dating’ site – and the ‘custom’ homepage for Canada is heavily skewed towards Quebecers and french speakers. Hover over any of the headshots on their site to see what I mean.

What’s better: Dating someone with zero recommendation on a regular dating site, or dating someone that is a friend of a friend (or their friend, etc)? That’s where Thread comes in. Fully integrated with Facebook, it connects ‘friends of friends’ for dating. From what I can tell, everyone in the pool of friends needs to login to Thread in order for them to show up in your search results.

Facebook Singles Search No Longer

All Facebook reports that Facebook has removed the ability to search by ‘Relationship Status’. This is good news for online dating sites and Facebook dating apps, I’d imagine. No word on the official reason, but I suggest this is a poor choice, unless it’s Facebook’s preparation for their own dating interface. That would certainly help out in the revenue department.
