A tale from the Toronto dating world. Not online, however: offline. The cute Indian girl who I have this on-and-off attraction to (though I’ve been leaning well into the ‘off’ category lately – which, really, is a good thing – at least for now) has been matched up with an Indian guy via a family matching. They had the same Toronto-area Indian upbringing and share the same cultural values. Sounds like a slam dunk, right? Could be.

Cute Indian girl tells me this, ‘me’ being someone (yes, non-Indian) who she has had a interesting relationship with over the past couple of years. Basically, the connection is definitely noticeable between us, however many of the other things (that ‘Indian guy’ has, as described above) don’t fall into place in our case.

I’ve been really digging into things like signs of attraction and such lately and thus I look for them now. So, today, both before and after Indian girl told me that she’d met ‘Indian guy’, the attraction signals were there. Actually, more so after she told me. Does this mean that I became that much more attractive by taking the ‘news’ well? Possible, I guess. I’m finding it all very interesting. She’s not usually a very physically touchy person however she was today.

One more thing: during our discussion (you know, I’m asking where she met him, etc, etc), she, more than once did the shoulder shrug. Another sign, I’m guessing. The shrug described as a “universal sign of resignation, uncertainty, and submissiveness“, adding “shrug cues may modify, counteract, or contradict verbal remarks” – i.e. “I’m not so sure.”

In all honesty, though, she’s a great girl (yeah, a few things bug me, but…) and if she’s happy and he treats her well then that’s fantastic. There’s much more ‘pre-story’ to this tale which won’t be divulged this round. We’ll see. If you have thoughts on the above (signs of attraction increased?) please comment below.

I think I’m going to go and update my OkCupid profile sometime soon (easily the most innovate dating site out there today – by far). Stay tuned.

I’ve heard before that women who play with their hair in front of a guy are subconsciously showing attraction by doing so. This appears to be the consensus online:

“The experts say that even the way a woman unconsciously fusses with her hair while talking to a man can have an underlying sexual meaning. Very often you see a woman repeatedly playing with her hair as she talks to a man. She runs her fingers through it, brushes it back, toys with it, flips it. These unconscious grooming movements indicate that the female is unwittingly saying, ‘I want to improve my looks for you’.” [ABC Article Directory]

“For a woman her hair is a very important part to show off her beauty. That is why women are very particular about their hair cut. Hair has an amazing power of seducing you. If you see her throwing her hair seductively or twirling and fondling with her hair, she is deep into you and is flirting with you for sure. So make the dash for her!” [Top 10 Signs...]

“She visibly grooms herself, plays with her hair, and adjusts what she’s wearing. This shows that she is careful about her appearance, desiring to display her best-self to attract you.” [Author Article Directory]

“If the woman you are with seems to be nervous, there’s a good chance he is really interested in you. Nervousness can come across in a variety of different ways, such as fidgeting, playing with her hair, or even biting on her lower lip.” [SeductionMonkey.com]

“Flicking hair back from the face is a ‘display gesture,’ a sign that she’s interested…” [Men's Health]

“Women playing with their hair, wiping imaginary dust off the other person’s clothes, leaning forwards towards the other and standing or sitting closer together than normal are all signs of attraction.” [BBC h2g2 wiki]

“Women, even if it’s subconsciously, know the things that make a man take notice and they’ll do these things as a signal of attraction themselves. Playing with their hair in a certain manner is a subtle way for a woman to show she has a level of attraction.” [ezine @rticles]

“She plays with her hair: While relatively simple and commonplace, in the right hands a woman’s hair is a versatile weapon. When trying to get your attention, she may twirl her hair in her fingers or let it cascade in front of one eye, adding a sense of come-hither mystery to her persona.” [AskMen.com]

There you have it. While I’m not sure how scientific these statements are, there is definitely many who agree that when a woman plays with her hair when talking with you, it’s a good sign for a guy.
